Bantry Masters of Tradition

Just to remind you all that the “Masters of Tradition” concerts will begin on Wednesday 13th - 17th August, a great line up of concerts and workshops . There will be two concerts each day. The opening concert - ceolchoirm with Martin Hayes on the fiddle and Danny 0′Mahony accordion and Micheal O’ Suilleabhain on piano and the late night concert is with David Power on the uilleann pipes.Some of the sessions will be held in St. Brendans church. Workshops are being held at St. Gobans College Bantry, Thursday 14th and Friday 15th with tin whistle, button accordion, flute and fiddle workshops with some of the best. Bantry, West Cork Chamber Music Festival 2008

The 2008 concerts got underway on June 28th last with opening concert in Bantry House at 8pm, Schubert, with , Rosamunde Quartet, Bacewicz, Royal Quartet, Greif Altenberg Trio, Kinsella, RTE Vanbrugh Quartet.
Some of the concerts will be at St. Brendans Church, with Coffee Concerts at 11am. There will also be afternoon concerts at both venues.
The west wing restaurant has opened in Bantry House serving light meals and also dinner, of course you can also sit in the conservatory and enjoy some coffee. With the weather so bad at the moment there is no excuse and what a perfect way to spend a wet afternoon with the best artists from around the world.

Bantry West Cork Literary Festival

Returning to the Literary Festival just to remind everyone to consider getting their tickets well in advance as there is alot of “Buzz” on the events, Sunday 6th - 12th July, Paul Durcan will be in the Maritime Hotel reading his poetry on Wednesday July 9th and 20.30 - 21.30. On Saturday 12th July and evening of music and words with Colm o’Riain and Pireeni Sundaralingam and Dog Tail Soup so its music and poetry” joint compositions from Indian raag to Irish ballads, from Bayou Blues to gypsy jazz”. There are plenty of music workshops running, you have to get booklet on the events.

Bantry West Cork Literary Festival

Another year another Literary Festival, believe it or not its 10th year anniversary and the progam for this years event is crammed with something for everyone young and old. It begins on Sunday 6th - Saturday 12th July, with readings, seminars, workshops, exhibitions, music and of course childrens events.

The official opening will take place at Bantry Library with a wine reception everyone is welcome and it is free at 6pm. Senator Eoghan Harris will officially open the festival, and there will be an exhibition of photographs by John Minihan of the literary festivals over the last decade.

Community Hall in Ballydehob is to be the venue for the ” A Masters of Jazz Event” on Saturday May 3rd at 8.30pm with the Joe Davidian Trio from the U.S.A.

Womanagh is a Ceramics Exhibition by Martha Cashman at Organico Cafe, Glengarriff, Bantry and will be there until April 30th, for more details you can call 027 55905.Well worth a visit and you can also stay and have lunch in the cafe/restaurant serving all wholesome organic and really tasty meals.

Charity Concert

On April 19th at St. Brendans Church, concert Music of the Night,  for  “Christian Aid, Haiti,. Great line up Emma Dennis, soprano, Steven Goulden Tenor, Angela Thompson on Piano, and Jim Hildred Reader. West end and Broadway musical hits, popular opera, popular piano. Tickets at the door €20.00 on the night.

St. Patricks Day celebration concert at Bantry House

Coaimhin o Raghallaigh on fiddle and Ronan Browne on flute and pipes with GAMALTNYMALT  (ten string hardanger fiddle trio) playing in Bantry House on Sunday 16th March at 7pm.

Bantry Art Exhibition

O’Connors seafood restaurant is preparing a new exciting exhibit of art by Lorraine Mullins who is irish and  grew up in Ballycotton . in 1999 sho won the Cork Arts society “student of the year “award. Her work is based on  a depiction of the world around her and mainly through  landscapes they sometimes reflect the tranquil and equally the destructive forces of nature.
