The West Cork Chamber music festival kicks off in Bantry on Sat. June 27th - Sunday July 5th with the opening concert at 8pm at the wonderful Bantry House with th Callino Quartet you have Haydn, Mendelssohn Marc Coppey cello and Finghin Collins piano. Admission €40.00 . You will also have a selection of lunchtime concerts with e.g Lenneke Ruiten soprano and Finghin collins piano at 12.00 on Sunday and many many more. One of the events is a chance to see and listen to Martina Cole best seller of crime novels she will be speaking on July 10th at the Maritime Hotel at 8.30pm and she will be speaking to Aidan Stanley of RTE. Then on Saturday for any writers out there who want to get published etc.. but don’t know the procedure call in and listen to Darley Anderson who I think owns a literary, TV and film agency and is always on the lookout for new talents. He will give advise etc… He will be at the Maritime Hotel on July 11th at 3pm. Dont miss it.

On May 23rd next the Choir of the University of Winconsin Le Crosse will have a performance at St. Brendans church in Bantry. It is a free concert and the choir is made up of students from the university and all are welcome.

You will have teatime,lunchtime and morning concerts running throughout the week. One of the opening concert is by the Callina Quartet . On Tuesday June 30th at 5.00, the soprano Syvia O’Brien with Hanna Shybayeva on piano and many many more concerts besides.

Sylvia O’Brien soprano bringing “Seven Deadly Sins of Opera” to Bantry House on Sunday night next, 22nd at 3pm, she will be accompanied by pianist Hanna Shybayeva who is Russian, so each of the deadly sins e.g greed,anger etc will be will be from arias from operas such as La Boheme and Carmen etc..

Plans for this years festival are well under way and a new artistic director has been appointed. Sinead Collins has taken over from Clem Cairns so I am sure she will be very busy in the lead up to Sunday 5th July. The festival will run until until July 11th. Sinead is quoted as saying (and I came accross this in the Southern Star) the festival “has attracted some of the biggest names in the world of literature and amassed a very large and loyal following”. We eagerly await the details of events etc…
